Inari Raaterova – Bloomsday

Bloomsday exhibits series of works in which flowers serve as a motif as well as a matrix.

Photograph-based monoprints are shown side by side with monotypes reminiscent of photocopies or photograms. The images have been built with fragile, disintegrating plates, such as rose petals collected from the ground, withered flowers, and xerox paper.

Stark contrasts define the exhibition. The works are governed by the interplay of blankness and pitch-blackness, repetition and variation, fervour and fading. Present are relentless darkness and ruthless light, the promise of spring and the threat of summer.

Inari Raaterova works within the fields of printmaking and drawing, with a particular focus on various forms of monotype and photograph-based techniques.
