Timo Heino: REBORN
The starting point of the Reborn installation is a metamorphosis from one form to another. Physiological and anatomical metamorphosis is a dramatic process that is regulated by multiple, intertwined internal and external factors. It embodies the breaking of boundaries, the porosity of different life forms, and the multidirectional movement between death and life. It is a continuous transformation in which we eventually decompose into nourishment for other life forms as part of an endless material circulation.
Timo Heino explores the material world in his art, as well as our existence as material, sensuous, and corporeal beings. He is interested in conceptuality woven into materiality: conceptions, symbolism, and beliefs. Heino manufactures his works as collages, sculptures, and installations from compilations of various ingredients and objects.
Timo Heino studied to be a painter at the Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki 1985–1990 and defended his PhD in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of the Arts, Helsinki, in 2016. Heino has held regular exhibitions; for instance, Artek; Anhava; Sculptor; KIASMA; HAM; EMMA; WAM; Sara Hildén Art Museum; Tampere Art Museum; Dora House: Royal Society of Sculptors, London; Pinacoteca do Estado, Sao Paolo.
